Lynx Split Third Day of Spring Break Competition

Clermont, Fla. - Rhodes softball defeated Webster in the seventh inning before suffering their second shutout loss of the season, falling to Simpson 8-0. The Lynx are now 14-4 on the year.

Webster
With two outs, a Kendall Henry double scored the first run of the day in the first, but Webster tied the game in the following inning after the Gorloks got on base on a fielding error and then scored after a triple. After three scoreless innings, Webster took a 2-1 advantage after a passed ball sen their lead runner to third who was then driven in on a single to center field. In the bottom of the sixth, Rhodes tied the game on two hits after Lauren King tripled and then scored on a Haley Rath single to left field. Webster had the winning run on third with two outs until King struck out the final Gorlok swinging. With a new pitcher for Webster, Samantha Feinstein walked to lead off the seventh and moved to second on a sac bunt by Peyton Clark. Leslie Matherne walked, forcing Webster to change pitchers once more. Another walk by Jill Healy loaded the bases. Henry then stepped to the plate for the walk-off walk to score Feinstein.

Simpson
Simpson scored five runs in the first and three in the third to end the game early. It's the first loss for Rhodes in five innings this season and second shutout. Healy (double), Henry, Shannon Tierney and Feinstein all tallied a hit. A leadoff triple got things started for Simpson despite the Lynx tallying two outs immediately afterwards. Simpson then finished the inning with two home runs, a single, two walks and a hit by pitch. A double with the bases loaded scored the final three runs of the game.

Rhodes will conclude spring break play on Saturday, March 9 with games against Suffolk (12:45 p.m. ET) and WashU (3:15 p.m. ET). It will be the season openers for both Suffolk and WashU.
