Jackson, Miss. - Rhodes College softball came back from a six-run deficit Sunday to defeat Millsaps 11-8 to take the conference series and improve to 18-8 on the season and 6-2 in the Southern Athletic Association.
During the game, the Lynx compiled a season-high seven doubles. They recorded 13 hits, their highest number since March 5 against Thiel (14).
Millsaps rattled off six runs on a two-run homer, triple, double and two singles before pitcher
Lauren King scored on a Marissa Moore fielder's choice. That run started a five-run fourth inning for the Lynx on five hits (including three doubles), a walk, single and wild pitch.
In the fifth inning, Rhodes tallied four more runs, including the game-winner.
Anna Kula doubled to get into scoring position before Moore singled in Kula to tie the game.
Jill Healy was hit by a pitch and she and pinch runner
Kayla Rose moved up on a passes ball. With two outs, freshman
Taylor Clark pinch hit, doubling in the seventh and eighth runs before scoring the game-winner on a
Kendall Henry double to right field.
With Rhodes leading 9-6, both teams recorded two runs in the sixth.
Lauren King got the start and pitched four innings before
Abby Pons took over for the fifth. King re-entered the circle in the sixth. With two outs, the Majors doubled to center and Rhodes then brought in
Bri Maniscalco to pitch. Another double scored the final two runs for Millsaps, but Maniscalco struck out the final batter. In the seventh, the Majors reached on an error in hopes of a comeback victory, but a flyout to left, followed by two foul popups ensured a Lynx victory.
Kula went three-of-four with three runs scored while Henry went three-of-four with a walk and RBI. Healy went two-of-three, earned three RBI and scored twice.
The Lynx are at home for a single game against Lane College on Wednesday at 4 p.m. before hitting the road for games at Maryville College on April 2, followed by road conference contests at Sewanee April 6-7.
