Lynx Split Opening SAA Games With Oglethorpe

Atlanta, Ga. - Rhodes College baseball took to the road to open Southern Athletic Association play Saturday. The Lynx defeated Oglethorpe 10-3 before falling 7-2 to the Stormy Petrels. Rhodes is now 5-6 on the season. The two teams have moved the final game of the series to 10 a.m. ET on Sunday, March 3 in the hopes of completing the game before rain moves in.

Game One
Six doubles, two sac flies, a Ben Wilson career-high three runs scored and Wood Kimbrough's his first collegiate home run to score the winning run highlights Rhodes' SAA opener. Jacob Dubs picked up his third win of the season striking out 10 in seven innings. Rhodes took a 1-0 lead when Nick Bosma scored Ryan Palermo on a sac fly in the second inning. Dubs struck out the Stormy Petrels in order, all swinging, which he also did for the final two outs of the third. In the fourth, a Will Heurtin double put the Lynx in scoring position. Kimbrough singled up the middle to drive in Heurtin, but Oglethorpe cut that lead to one after an RBI double. Heurtin then doubled in Wilson to put Rhodes up 3-1 before Kimbrough solo homered to left field to score the winning run in the top of the sixth inning. Oglethorpe answered with a leadoff home run, but a sac fly from Palermo gave the Lynx a 5-2 lead in the seventh. The Lynx then scored five runs on four hits and fours walks in the eighth. The Stormy Petrels crossed the final run of the game after a throwing error in the bottom of the ninth.

Game Two
Rhodes tallied just four hits in the game, three of which came in the first inning, scoring Rhodes' only runs as Jacob Telli singled up the middle to drive in Giacomazzi and Brady John. A leadoff double helped Oglethorpe tie the game after they singled up the middle with two outs. The Stormy Petrels then tallied another two runs in the bottom of the second. With two outs, five walks and a stolen base allowed Oglethorpe to take a 4-2 advantage before the hosts tallied three more runs in the bottom of the sixth on three hits and two walks.

Rhodes will travel to Huntingdon for a mid-week spring break matchup on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Lynx conclude the break at home March 9-10 with a three-game series against No. 21-ranked UW-Oshkosh.
