Lynx Rally to Defeat FDU-Florham 12-11

Memphis - Rhodes College women's lacrosse fell behind 4-1 to the visiting Devils of FDU-Florham out of New Jersey, before eventually earning the 12-11 victory to improve to 4-3 on the season. The Devils are now 1-2.

Freshman Aidan Pike scored back-to-back goals to pull Rhodes within one (6-5) on a free position shot before the Devils closed out the half with a 7-5 lead. FDU-Florham opened the second half on a 4-2 run to pull ahead 11-7. The Lynx rallied as Pike, Annika Hedlund and Baylee Barker all scored to make it a one-goal game with 9:31 to play. Freshman Izzy Parker took control of the ensuing draw and ran down the field. She passed the ball straight to senior Casey Glick who was wide open down low to tie the game on her first goal of the season. Under a minute later, Glick wrapped the crease to score the game-winner with 8:26 left.

Rhodes failed a clear attempt as time was winding down. The Devils took control of the ball in the midfield and immediately called a timeout with 22.2 seconds left. The Lynx were charged a foul at the top of the 12m arc with 3 seconds left. The Devils pushed their way into the 8m and got a shot off, which Lauren Lazure wrapped up to end the game.

With wind gusts of 30+ miles per hour, Barker and Pike both recorded four goals while Hedlund finished the game with two. Alongside Parker, Madison Rubino tallied an assist. Barker won nine draw controls while Parker tallied six. Lazure made seven saves.

FDU-Florham went 22-28 on clears while Rhodes was successful on nine of 16 attempts. Overall, Rhodes won 20 of 25 draw controls.

The Lynx return to conference action with a road game at Hendrix on Saturday at noon. The Lynx return home on Monday for a 4 p.m. game against Stevens.
