Memphis - Rhodes College softball opened the 2019 season with a 12-8 victory over University of the Ozarks, followed by a 5-0 shutout over Huntingdon College.
Game One
The Lynx blasted the season open with six runs in the first inning. An RBI single from sophomore
Lauren King in the second innings, followed by an RBI-single from senior
Jill Healy and a two-run shot over the center field scoreboard from senior
Kendall Henry, put the Lynx up 10-0 after four innings. During that span, senior
Bri Maniscalco allowed just one hit before re-entering the game in the middle of the fifth with the bases loaded and zero outs. After five innings, Rhodes led 10-6 and added two more runs in the sixth on four hits. Ozarks closed out the game with a two-run double before Maniscalco earned her first win of the season on a strikeout.
Game Two
King, a sophomore transfer, got the start in game two, earning her first career shutout. She allowed six hits over the seven innings and struck out five batters. King also went two-of-three at the plate, scored twice and recorded an RBI in the fourth. Rhodes' winning unearned run crossed in the third when
Anna Kula stole second and advanced all the way home on a throwing error by Huntingdon. Henry continued her power hitting, recording a double and triple in the second game to record a 1.500 slugging percentage, on the day. King finished the day with five hits on seven at-bats and a .714 batting average.
Taylor Clark, Henry and King totaled three RBI on the cold day while Marissa Moore,
Haley Rath, Henry and King all recorded doubles.
