Rhodes College men's tennis fell to No. 27-ranked Denison Saturday 6-3 before rebounding on Sunday for a 9-0 shutout against the Transylvania Pioneers.
The Lynx took No. 1 (
P.J. Shaw/
Andrew Morton) and No. 2 doubles (Phillipe Lauture/Ricky Chatterjee) from the Lords as well as No. 1-singles (Chatterjee). Lauture and Chatterjee teamed up to win 8-5 before Shaw and Morton won 8-7 with a 10-6 tie-breaker to give Rhodes a 2-1 lead. Chatterjee went down 4-6 before winning the second set in a tie-breaker followed by a 10-6 third set victory.
On Sunday against Transylvania,
Frank Stich and
Ryan Crump earned a shutout at No. 3-doubles. Shaw fought off his opponent after going down one to win the last two sets 6-0, 10-7 and ensure a shutout for the Lynx.
Rhodes is back at home this Saturday, February 23 in a Southern Athletic Association opener against Hendrix College. First serve will begin at 9 a.m.
