Memphis - The No. 6/9-ranked University of Mary Hardin-Baylor defeated Rhodes women's basketball 78-60 as the Cru won their seventh straight game to improve to 7-1 on the season. Rhodes is now 4-5 overall.
The Lynx trailed by five points after the first quarter but a 22-10 second quarter Cru second-quarter advantage opened the game, giving UMHBÂ a 36-19 halftime lead. The Lynx edged the Cru in the third quarter 18-17 where
Alli Mayeux totaled eight points on her way to a 15-point second half. During that frame the Lynx out-rebounded UMHB 14-10 and recorded a 10-point scoring run to pull within 12 points. In the fourth quarter, Mayeux tallied seven points and three rebounds while freshman
Libby Long recorded eight points, sinking both three-point attempts as well as both free throws.Â
In the game, Mayeux led the Lynx with 20 points and eight rebounds as
Maya Longacre also tallied eight rebounds.
Caroline Taylor tallied 11 points and three assists and Long recorded 11 points finishing the day 3-of-4 from the arc.
Kiera Downey aided the Lynx offense with four assists.
As a team the Lynx went 13-of-16 at the free throw line, their best free throw shooting percentage of the season (81.4%). UMHB edged Rhodes 41-38 in rebounds and forced 18 Lynx turnovers compared to the Cru's nine. UMHBÂ shot .420 in the field compared to Rhodes' .328.Â
The Lynx will take a two-week break from competition, returning to Mallory Gymnasium to host Agnes Scott College on December 29 before opening Southern Athletic Association play on the road at Hendrix on New Year's Eve.
