Lynx Almost Upset BSC in Five-Set Thriller

Memphis - Rhodes volleyball exploded to a 9-1 lead against Birmingham-Southern College Sunday afternoon after scoring the first six points of the match. Ultimately, BSC would go on to win in five sets to make program history with their first ever Southern Athletic Association regular season championship. 

The Lynx hit .344 with 13 kills in that first set. The Lynx went on a 6-1 run late to lead 23-12 before taking the first set 25-16. The second set started off back and forth with BSC leading 10-8. The Panthers then secured a 15-1 run to dominate and tie the match. Rhodes trailed 17-16 until the Panthers closed out the set with a 25-17 victory. The Lynx jumped out to a 7-1 lead and eventually a 14-8 advantage in the fourth set. BSC would only get within five points of the Lynx who forced a fifth set after a 25-18 win. A 7-1 run broke open the game for BSC who led 8-4. The Lynx pulled within three (12-9) but ran out of time as BSC won the match after a score of 15-10. 

Rhodes was led by Kathryn Chambers' 14 kills and six block assists while Heather Antrim's .455 hitting percentage after recording six kills on 11 attempts. Gabrielle White recorded two solo blocks to go with four block assists and Marissa Hall tallied 19 digs. 

The Lynx conclude their regular season at home on Saturday, hosting Hendrix for senior day at 12 p.m. followed by a non-conference matchup against Belhaven at 4 p.m.
