Game Recap: Softball |

Henry's grand slam helps Lynx split games at Union

Jackson, Tenn. - Rhodes College softball fell to non-conference foe Union University in their first night game but retaliated with 10 runs in the first inning of game two as they went on to win 10-6. The split earned the Lynx their 20th win of the season as Rhodes now sits 20-14 on the year.

With the game tied 3-3, the home Lady Bulldogs tallied a game-winning RBI double in the fifth inning. Starting pitcher Bri Maniscalco struck out six over four innings while reliever Jamie Jang suffered the loss. In that first game, leadoff hitter Peyton Clark went two-of-two with two walks and a stolen base while Jill Healy doubled.

In game two, the Lynx began with a lineup different from any game this year. With out Clark or Anna Kula in the lineup, Kendall Henry started at third base, Haley Rath moved from outfield to second base, Caroline Reilly started in the circle, Samantha Feinstein started at catcher and Maniscalco started in right field. Allison Long and Jamie Jang, both usually in the circle also saw playing time out in right field.

A leadoff walk for Kirsten Samuels in the game proved deadly for the Lady Bulldogs after a hit-by-pitch, three walks, three singles, a wild pitch and a Kendall Henry grand slam scored 10 runs for Rhodes. After Henry's first career four-RBI swing, Union held the Lynx scoreless for the remaining six innings. Healy walked three times while Karrah Flores went two-of-three in the game.

Rhodes managed to escape with the win even though Union capped off the night with six runs including four in the third inning. Maniscalco picked up her 14th win of the season after allowing just one hit over the final four innings of the game.

Rhodes is scheduled to host Crowley's Ridge on Saturday. The doubleheader starts at noon.
