Memphis - Rhodes College men's lacrosse suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of a hot Muhlenberg College team.
Muhlenberg started the game by maintaining longer possession as the Mules took a 2-0 lead.
Matt Perez quickly cut that deficit to one goal but the visitors netted four straight goals to break open the game. Rhodes ended that streak with a goal by
John Tooher with 5:16 to play in the first half.
Muhlenberg held a 3-2 third period advantage to lead 9-4 headed into the fourth period where both teams were held scoreless until the final three minutes.
Mac Ference notched his first goal of the season with 2:49 to play, but Bobby McLoughlin fed Alexander Giaquinto for the Mules' 10th goal just 30 seconds later. The Lynx concluded scoring when
Steven Yowan assisted
Ryan Fennelly's game-ending goal.
Muhlenberg goalie Garrett Pope put the Lynx out of business with his 18 saves as the Lynx recorded 24 shots on goal compared to the Mules' 18.
For Rhodes,
Matthew Simon had timely ground balls and turnovers, recording three and two respectively. Yowan led Rhodes once again with four ground balls and three caused turnovers while
Matt Perez scored twice, notched an assist and tallied two caused turnovers. Fennelly finished with two goals as well and
Cameron Link saved eight shots in cage for the Lynx.
The Lynx went 0-3 in man-up situations while the Mules tallied three goals on five attempts.
Rhodes is scheduled to host Southern Virginia University this Saturday at Crain Field at 1 p.m.
