Lynx take Oglethorpe series after 8-4 game three victory

Memphis - Rhodes baseball led 6-0 before ultimately defeating Oglethorpe 8-4 in the third game of the weekend to take the series from the Stormy Petrels. The Lynx improve to 13-10 overall and 6-3 in SAA play.

Rhodes awarded fans with plenty of action early as the team scored three runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning. Zach LiebensonRyan Palermo and Will Heurtin all singled while Jacob Telli doubled and stole third base. Rhodes turned a double play to end the next half as Heurtin stepped on second and lasered a shot over to Palermo at first base.

Liebenson led off the third inning with a walk and after Telli singled the duo scored on a Heurtin three-run home run, his second homer of the year. Alex Smith had come in to pitch for Matt Davis who left the game abruptly with an injury.

Oglethorpe tallied three runs in the top of the fourth on two hits, two wild pitches, two walks and an error to get on the scoreboard and a wild pitch in the fifth allowed them to score to cut Rhodes' lead to two. Rhodes eased fans' minds with two runs in the eighth to give them a little more separation over the Stormy Petrels.

John Medich left the mound for the Lynx with a 6-4 lead to earn his first victory of the season while Nick Bosma pitched the final 2.1 innings for his seventh save of the year and second of the series against Oglethorpe.

Heurtin finished the day three-of-four with four RBI as he also scored once. Liebenson went one-of-two with a walk as he crossed home twice and Telli went two-of-four with two runs scored and two RBI. In the game, the Lynx totaled 11 hits while Oglethorpe left 10 runners on base.

Rhodes will host Huntingdon Tuesday at 2 p.m. before traveling to Centre College this weekend.
