Birmingham, Ala. - Rhodes softball found themselves on the downside of two games Saturday at Birmingham-Southern College.
Tied 1-1, in the bottom of the seventh with zero outs, the Panthers had runners on second and third. A short hopper was sent to Rhodes'
Peyton Clark at third who checked her runner and threw the ball to first base.
Karrah Flores then fired home to get the Panther trying to score, but hte umpire claimed the runner was safe, ending game one.
After both teams totaled just seven hits in the first game, the two SAA competitors combined for 18 hits with the Lynx tallying 10 themselves. In the fifth inning the Lynx tallied two runs off three hits and an error to take a 4-3 lead over BSC. But the Panthers tied the game on a solo home run in the sixth. In the top of the ninth, Rhodes fans thought Flores was safe at first after bunting and head coach
Luke Wagner questioned the umpire from the third base line. The umpire, standing between shortstop and second base, ejected Wagner for the remainder of the contest.
The Lynx held the Panthers scoreless for their next two half innings before a bases-loaded single up the middle ended the game in the bottom of the 11th.
Rhodes will finish the series at BSC Sunday at noon.
