Softball finishes spring break with two victories Friday

Kissimmee, Fla - Rhodes College softball wrapped up spring break with a thrilling 9-7 victory in nine innings over Washington College, followed by a 14-4 five-inning run rule over Centenary College. The Lynx finished the week 5-3 and out-scored their opponents 64-37. Rhodes is now 13-5 for the season.

Washington College
Junior pitcher Bri Maniscalco went the duration and picked up her eighth win of the season. Helping her were plenty of teammates in true team-win fashion as the Lynx stole 12 bases in the game.

Peyton Clark stole second in the third inning to get the ball rolling as Kendall Henry's single to right drove her in. Washington College roped in three runs in the bottom half of that same inning and added another run in the fourth. Clark once again got into scoring position in the fifth and crossed the plate on a Haley Rath single. Rhodes posted four runs on five hits including two doubles in the sixth to take a 6-5 lead before Washington College took a one-run lead in the bottom half of the inning. In the seventh with two outs, Kayla Rose and Olivia Jackson both singled and stole second to get into scoring position before Rose tied the game on a wild pitch.

After a scoreless eighth, Anna Kula walked and Jill Healy earned first on a fielding error and both Lynx stole a base to get into scoring position. Jamie Jang pinch hit for Rose and pushed up both runners as Washington College tried to get Kula out at home but failed. Jang then stole second base as well and Jackson drove in Healy on a single to left field for the insurance run.

Centenary
After each team secured four runs across the first two innings, the Lynx posted 10 runs in the fourth and held Centenary scoreless to finish their final game of the break early.

Healy hit a home run and Marisa Moore a double as Rhodes rallied for 12 hits. Moore went three-of-three with a walk in the game for three RBI as she also scored twice. Kirsten Samuels and Healy both tallied four RBI.

Jang earned her first victory of the season after pitching the fourth and fifth innings and allowing just one hit.

Rhodes will play on the road at Birmingham-Southern March 17-18 as they return to conference action.
