Memphis - Rhodes College softball is now 4-0 after defeating Greenville 4-2 and Covenant 6-3 Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless four innings, and with a runner on third and two outs, head coach
Luke Wagner called upon freshman
Samantha Feinstein for some help. The pinch hitting opportunity was the first collegiate at-bat for the Pembroke, Fla. native who recorded her first career double and RBI to give Rhodes a 1-0 lead. Greenville had a runner on third with one out in the top of the fifth but Lynx junior
Bri Maniscalco sent the next two Panthers packing on strikeouts.
In the bottom of the fifth, Rhodes increased their lead after
Shannon Tierney stepped up in another pinch hit situation, in her first at-bat of the season. Tierney ripped a two-run shot to center which ricocheted off the scoreboard to give Rhodes a 3-0 advantage. Catcher
Kendall Henry led off the bottom of the sixth with a homer and Kendall Farr answered with a two-run home run for Greenville in the seventh.
In game one,
Haley Rath hit her first career triple to center in the sixth.
Against Covenant the Lynx mixed up the lineup and after the Scots got out to an early 3-0 lead after the first two and a half innings, Rhodes took advantage of a defensive error which eventually allowed them to load the bases.
Kirsten Samuels doubled to give Rhodes a 3-0 lead which was padded by a
Kendall Henry sacrifice fly.
Tierney pinch hit once again and earned another RBI this time on a single up the middle. She advanced to second on the throw home and made it all the way to third after a throwing error.
Haley Rath came back in to run for Tierney and scored after
Karrah Flores singled up the middle as well.
Allison Long pitched for the Lynx and earned her second win in the circle. Henry finished the Covenant game with two doubles.
Rhodes will be back in action at home on Saturday, February 10th when they host Webster University and Agnes Scott College.
