Memphis - Rhodes baseball and Sewanee met up for their conference openers and after a long day, the Lynx have begun SAA play 2-0.
Game one –
Senior starting pitcher
Jack Mercer was hot on the mound, striking out the final batter in four of his five innings pitched. All three outs in the third for Sewanee were K's by Mercer who caught the last two swinging. He earned the win after tallying 12 strikeouts on 26 batters faced. He left the fifth with the Lynx up 5-3.
In the seventh, Sewanee's Jake Woodard singled to right and Lynx fans thought
Zach Liebenson's tag on the Tigers advancing home was good, however the home plate umpire disagreed, allowing Sewanee to score their final run.
Paul Giacomazzi went four-of-five in the game with two RBI.
Nick Bosma earned his fourth save after pitching the ninth inning and striking out two Tigers.

Game two –
Jon Michael Lauck put up two big defensive plays in the beginning of the nightcap while
Will Heurtin's strong defensive effort in the fifth inning. Trey Akins singled on a deep ball grounder between third and short, but
Will Heurtin kept with the ball, taking control of it at the edge of the infield. He fired home as Bryce Benedict rounded third and connected with
Jacob Telli at the plate to end the inning.
Telli went two-of-two with a walk, run scored and RBI while Palermo earned three RBI.
Trey Sledge earned the win after recording nine strikeouts over six innings.
On the day, Rhodes pitchers struck out 25 Tigers across 16 innings.
Rhodes and Sewanee will meet up bright and early tomorrow with a 10:30 a.m. game, once again taking place at FedEx Park on the campus of the University of Memphis.
