Memphis - Rhodes College women's lacrosse broke out to a seven-goal lead over Augustana College Sunday afternoon on their way to a 24-4 victory. The Lynx are now 3-0 on the year as Augie drops to 1-1.
Maggie Rippeto slipped the ball to
Olivia Holmes just 20 seconds into the game to net the first goal of the day.
Ashley Doyle retrieved her draw control on the next play and ran straight to the cage to go up 2-0. Doyle next added a free position shot to give Rhodes a 3-0 lead within the first 50 seconds of the game.
Augustana scored all four goals in the half, two of which came on free position shots. Rhodes led 14-4 at halftime as the Lynx scored 10 goals in the second half.
During that second half, sophomore
Claire Zagrodzky gained possession of the draw control, passed to senior
Liz Lewis towards middle of the field to
Liz Lewis. Lewis passed the ball straight ahead to junior Kaylin Ryan. Ryan lofted to freshman Hannah Swinerton at the top of the 8-meter arc. Swinerton took a step around her defender and netted her first career goal on a fantastic transition by the Lynx as a member of each class connected for Rhodes' 22nd goal of the game.
KK Mulholland also scored her first collegiate goal as well as her first collegiate assist. In the game,
Kendall Cunningham led the Lynx with seven goals and an assist for eight points. Doyle finished with four goals and two assists while Holmes and Rippeto each tallied three goals.
Carla Bennett recorded three of the Vikings' goals.
Rhodes will travel to Bloomington, Ill. this weekend for two games, first featuring a neutral-site contest against No. 21-ranked Colorado College on Saturday at 11 a.m. before going up against Illinois Wesleyan on Sunday at 10 a.m. Last year the Lynx defeated the Tritons twice, including the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
