Memphis - Rhodes College men's lacrosse moved up their home-opener Saturday from 1 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. to try and evade the thunderstorms in the forecast. Lightning hit campus around 10:30 and both teams took advantage to what looked like a break in the weather.
After
Justin Powers broke open scoring for the Lynx,
J.J. Hoots scored immediately after winning the next faceoff. The Lynx netted the first 10 goals of the game before Augustana got on the scoreboard. It was a slow-scoring third but the Lynx held a 3-1 advantage. Rain began pouring down at the end of the third period and briefly for the beginning of the final frame before stopping abruptly to bring out some sunshine for the remaining nine minutes of play.
Rhodes scored five more goals in the fourth period including the last three goals, two of which were by
Adrian Mann.
In goal,
Cameron Link saved five shots while
Brendan Roberts,
John Mondi and
Stephen Miller also gained time between the pipes.
The Lynx won 20 of 27 faceoffs, led by Hoots who went 10-11, and Elliott Gorski's 8-11.
Matt Perez and
Julian Paulay each scored three goals on four shots.
Rhodes won 20-4 and are now 2-0 on the season. Augustana fell to 0-3.
Saturday's win was the first of a seven-game home stand for the Lynx. Rhodes will host a mid-week matchup against Huntingdon College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
