Box Score Conway, Ark. – Rhodes women's basketball improves to 6-0 after their 60-55 victory over Texas-Lutheran University.
Rhodes led 10-2 before Texas-Lutheran jumped out to an 18-2 run. The Lynx answered with 17 straight points to lead 29-20 with 2:23 left in the first half. At halftime, Rhodes led 35-24 , but the Bulldogs threatened that lead by scoring eight unanswered points to begin the second half.
Rhodes began the final quarter with a 48-39 advantage, however TLU pulled within one after the two teams traded three-pointer's with five minutes to play. The Bulldogs were able to take a one-point lead (52-51) with 4:38 to go, but Rhodes responded with five straight points until another TLU three-pointer threatened Rhodes' undefeated record with 1:19 left in the game.
The Lynx sank a free throw to pull ahead by two points and earned some breathing room after
Alyssa Owens pulled down a defensive rebound with 38 seconds to play. Adding to the relief was freshman
Kiera Downey with a good three-pointer with nine seconds remaining, to hand Rhodes their sixth straight victory of the season.
In the game,
Alli Mayeux and
Allie Young each recorded eight rebounds with four Lynx posting double digit points. Mayeux scored 14 points including four treys while Owens tallied 12 points and Downey 11, both netting three from long range. Downey missed just one three point attempt while Mayeux went four-of-eight in the win. Young scored 10 points and added a block as did
Moriah Muhammad. Leading all assisters was sophomore
Lindsey Whiteside with four.
Rhodes missed just one of eight free throw attempts. The Lynx shot 43% in the field overall and 42% from behind the arc.
Rhodes will turn around and host No. 19-ranked Austin College on Sunday at noon.
