Memphis, Tenn. - After falling to Louisiana College on Saturday 82-59, the Rhodes College men's basketball team came up just short of a comeback bid against LaGrange College on Sunday, falling 80-77. Rhodes is now 2-2 on the season.
After trailing by 18 points in the first half, the Lynx chipped away at the Panthers until finally
Daniel Darst set the Lynx up with possession on an offensive rebound. Darst then connected on a three-pointer in the corner on the same possession to pull the Lynx within three points (70-67). Rhodes only trailed by two with 3:45 to play. Down 78-75,
Preston Giroux came up big for the Lynx with a block with 22.3 seconds left, with the Lynx picking up a team rebound. He then tipped in an offensive board to pull Rhodes within one of LaGrange. Forced to foul, Rhodes fell behind 80-77 as time ran out.
In Sunday's game,
Bryce Berry led the Lynx with 16 points, followed by Darst with 15 points and eight rebounds as Giroux finished the game with 14 points and six rebounds.
Mitch Weatherford led Rhodes with five assists and six drawn fouls while
Kendrick Ashby added another four assists. Berry went three-of-five from long range and five-of-eight overall.
On Saturday, Rhodes trailed 43-27 at halftime before coming up seven points short in the second half. Giroux led the Lynx with 13 points and six rebounds after making four of his eight field goal attempts.
This past weekend was the last home game for the Lynx until Dec. 17
th. Rhodes will travel to Los Angeles, Calif. this holiday week, playing at Occidental on Wednesday, followed by Whittier on Friday as well as a neutral-site game against Chapman, hosted by Whittier.
