Columbus, Miss. - Rhodes College volleyball swept a non-conference contest against Mississippi University for Women (MUW) 25-16, 25-16, 25-21 Tuesday night. The win ends a four-game losing streak for the Lynx who improve to 11-9 on the season.
Leading 14-13, Rhodes secured six unanswered points including three straight aces by
Kelsey Glasper to take a 20-13 lead, catapulting the Lynx to their first set victory. Rhodes jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the second set until they again led 20-13, closing out the set on a 3-1 run. The Lynx hit a set-best .480 with 13 kills on 25 attempts to move to 2-0 on the night. In the final set, Rhodes led 18-3 until the Owls went on a 4-1 run to pull within two however MUW wouldn't get any closer, as Rhodes finished the sweep with a 25-21 win.
Rhodes led all categories in the game, securing nine kills (
Camila Zimmerman), five service aces (Glasper), 17 digs (
Mary Frances Daniel), 18 assists (
Marissa Hall) and three blocks (
Morgan Hill). Glasper also recorded 13 digs while Hill tallied a .462 hitting percentage with six kills on 13 attacks.
Rhodes will travel to Berry and Oglethorpe this weekend, taking on the Vikings on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET, followed by the Stormy Petrels on Sunday, also at 1 p.m. ET.
