Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lynx overpowered by BSC in the fourth quarter

Birmingham, Ala. - Rhodes College women's basketball fell at Birmingham-Southern Sunday afternoon 78-71. The Lynx are now 10-5 overall and 3-2 in conference. BSC is now 9-7 overall and are also 3-2 in SAA play.

Rhodes led 41-38 at halftime. Senior Jessie Ustick got into foul trouble early and had three fouls well before halftime. She sat out the entire third quarter, but that didn't stop the Lynx from out-scoring the Panthers 25-16. Rhodes saw their 14-point lead at start of the final frame squandered as BSC came back to win after out-scoring the Lynx 34-15.
With the game tied 68-68 and 1:05 to play, Ustick committed her fifth foul of the game. Those free throws sparked an eight-point run (all from the charity stripe) and eventual victory for the Panthers.

Senior Erin Deery led Rhodes with 15 points while freshman Lindsey Whiteside posted a double-double. She recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds. Alyssa Owens also scored 13 points. She made three treys as did Deery. Allie Young also netted double digits, scoring 10 points and recording two blocks.

The Lynx return to Memphis and will host Sewanee on Friday, January 19th at 6 p.m.
