Edmiston's four field goals not enough as Millsaps edges Rhodes 20-19

Memphis - Rhodes College football fell today at home against Southern Athletic Association rival Millsaps College 20-19 after holding a 19-7 advantage after three quarters. Millsaps scored 13 points in the fourth quarter while holding Rhodes scoreless to edge the Lynx and rise above .500.

"We played well on defense most of the game, however, overall we had too many penalties and too many turnovers to win such a close game", commented head coach Jim Ryan. "Kyle Edmiston had a fantastic day for us and gave us our best chance to win on one of his best days."

After Millsaps and Rhodes traded touchdowns, Edmiston recorded 12 points for Rhodes on four field goals including a 41-yarder at the end of the first half to give Rhodes a 13-7 lead. In the final five and a half minutes, the Majors scored two touchdowns for the win.

Bron McPherson recorded a sack for a six-yard loss to end the first half. Also gaining yards on the defensive side of the ball was Cody Hatch who returned an interception for 18 yards to end the third quarter. His interception eventually led to a 24-yard Edmiston field goal.

Nine of the game's first 10 drives ended in punts. On the day, Rhodes' special teams were also busy with Turner Kim's five punts for 186 yards. The Lynx also blocked Millsaps' first fourth-quarter extra-point-attempt, trying to maintain their lead.

Lynx quarterback PJ Settles threw three interceptions while he passed for 210 yards and the Lynx, who are battling injuries, rushed for 177 yards. On the day, Rhodes held a 387-331 yard advantage on total offense over Millsaps however Rhodes' interceptions and nine penalties hindered their success.

Rhodes is now 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the SAA. They Lynx are on the road next week at Trinity (TX) for a 6 p.m. kickoff on Oct. 7th.
