MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College softball team dropped the season finale to Centre College on Senior Day by the score of 7-3 on Saturday afternoon, but still held on to the No. 3 seed at the upcoming SAA Championship next weekend.
The Colonels jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but Rhodes got a pair of runs back in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a RBI from junior
Kirsten Samuels followed by sophomore
Kendall Henry scoring on a wild pitch.
However, the Colonels added one in the second and third innings and two in the sixth to take a 7-2 lead. Senior
Christine Hume, one of three seniors playing in their final home contest, blasted a solo shot down the left field line to make it 7-3, but the Lynx would fall by that score.
Hume finished 3-for-3 with the home run and a run scored while Henry, Samuels, and senior
Caroline Sutton had the only other hits on the day.
Sophomore
Bri Maniscalco got the start in the circle, pitching six complete to go with two strikeouts. Freshman
Shannon Tierney pitching one inning as well, allowing no hits.
The Lynx will have an opportunity to get pay back on the Colonels as they open with Centre on Friday at the SAA Championship in Chattanooga. A time has not been determined at this time, but check rhodeslynx.com for updated information.Â
