SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Rhodes College men's tennis team played for a chance to win a share of the SAA Title on Saturday afternoon, but eventually fell just short to Sewanee, who claimed the title outright with a 6-3 win on their home court.
The team of freshmen
P.J. Shaw and
Phil Lauture were victorious at No. 3 doubles, 9-7, but Sewanee got two points at doubles to take a 2-1 lead as the teams moved to singles action.
Rhodes battled in singles, looking to make up ground and earn their share of the title. Freshman
Ritwik Chatterjee moved to 20-1 on the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. Lauture carried over his great play in doubles with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.

Andrew Morton held off match point numerous times at No. 3 singles before eventually falling just short while Shaw dropped a close three set match at No. 6 singles 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 as Sewanee won four courts in singles for the 6-3 win.
Rhodes moves to 16-5 overall and 5-2 in the SAA, claiming the No. 3 seed at the upcoming SAA Championship. The Lynx open things at 12 PM on Friday in Little Rock as they take on the No. 6 Berry College Vikings.
