Baseball Wins Rubber Match Over Hendrix to Earn Key Series Victory

CONWAY, Ark. - The Rhodes College baseball team earned an 8-4 win over Hendrix in the rubber match, earning a key conference series over the Warriors to take complete control of the No. 2 seed in the SAA Standings.

The Lynx go into next weekend's series finale needing one win over Centre or a Hendrix loss to Oglethorpe to earn the No. 2 seed and host the opening round weekend in two weeks.

To go with 14 hits on the afternoon, Rhodes got an excellent start from sophomore Nick Bosma, pitching eight complete and allowing only one run on four hits to go with four strikeouts. Sophomore Will Vance eventually closed the door in the ninth, pitching 0.2 innings and allowing only one hit.

Rhodes got things started with a big second inning, scoring three in the inning. Freshman Jon Michael Lauck started with a sac fly for the 1-0 lead while freshman Paul Giacomazzi singled a run home. A Hendrix error in the inning made it a 3-0 game.

Hendrix cut the deficit to two in the bottom of the second, but a RBI singles from sophomore Will Hunt made it 4-1.

Bosma continued to limit the Warrior bats while Rhodes began to add insurance runs late in the game as senior Bennett Notestine singled home a run in eighth while junior Levin Greenberg had a huge two RBI triple while senior Zac Lange added a RBI double to make it 8-1.

Hendrix got three runs in the ninth, but it was not enough as Rhodes earned the huge series win.

Giacomazzi was huge, going 4-for-6 with a RBI and run scored while Lange was 3-for-4 with a double and RBI. Sophomore Chris Winter went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored. Greenberg had the big triple while Hunt was 1-for-2 with two walks, a RBI, and a run scored. Sophomore Jacob Telli scored a pair of runs.

Rhodes moves to 19-17 overall and 11-7 in the SAA. They take on Millsaps on Tuesday in a non-conference contest at 5 PM before their final conference series against Centre at home.
