MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Rhodes College softball team showed again on Sunday that they can hang with one of the top teams in the nation, but a big fifth inning from No. 3 Berry was too much as they took a 7-2 win over the Lynx for the sweep.
After the Vikings put one across in the first, Rhodes responded with two runs in the second as junior
Allison Long drove in a run via a fielder's choice while sophomore
Haley Rath put Rhodes ahead with a RBI single to left.
The Lynx rode the arms of Long and sophomore
Bri Maniscalco, who were both solid again, allowing a combined one earned run in the entire game. However, Berry exploded for six runs in the fifth, all unearned, to take the lead back and pull away for the win.
Long pitched three, allowing one run on four hits while Maniscalco added three innings pitched, allowing no earned runs on five hits.
Rath finished 1-for-2 with a RBI while sophomore
Jill Healy was 1-for-2 with a run scored and a stolen base. Freshman
Kayla Rose and senior
Caroline Sutton had hte only other hits on the afternoon.
Rhodes moves to 20-17 overall and 8-7 in the SAA. They close their conference and regular season next weekend as they finally return home after a nine game home stand, being away for three straight weekends. They battle the Colonels of Centre beginning on Saturday with a doubleheader at 12 PM.
