Lynx Men Roll Oglethorpe to Remain Unbeaten in Conference Play

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Rhodes College men's lacrosse team moved to 3-0 in Southern Athletic Association play as they rolled the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels on the road to a 21-5 victory on Friday evening.

Rhodes was dominant all evening, out shooting the Petrels 56-26. The Lynx picked up 49 ground balls to Oglethorpe's 19 while forcing 14 turnovers. The Lynx set a career-high in faceoffs won, going 22 of 27.

The Lynx built a huge lead with a nearly perfect first half, blanking Oglethorpe in the first half and taking an 11-0 lead into the break.

Rhodes, like their last game against BSC, scored six goals in the first quarter. Junior Justin Powers scored a pair of goals while sophomore Tyler Milwit, sophomore John Tooher, and freshman Ethan Houley each added a goal.

The Lynx kept up the pressure in the second quarter as Powers picked up a hat trick while Milwit, junior Ryan Fennelly, and freshman Alexander Carolan and David Vanderwall each scored for the 11-0 halftime lead.

Milwit, freshman Tristan Brunet, and seniors Jason Lee and Mike Knudsen added goals in the third while Knudsen, Lee, junior Tommy Reingruber, and freshmen Chris Conn and David Jones scored in the fourth for the 21-5 victory.

Powers and Milwit finished with four points, each earning hat tricks and adding an assist while seven different players added two points in the contest including two assists from freshmen Addison Mueller and Matt Perez. 

Defensively, Fennelly finished with two caused turnovers while freshman Eliot Gorski had a career-high 12 ground balls and went 15 of 15 in faceoffs. Freshman J.J. Hoots added five assists while freshman Ethan Garland picked up four. Junior John Mondi earned his first start in goal for the season, picking up 10 saves in the win.

Rhodes is now 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the SAA as they prepare to head to Mt. Berry, Ga. for a tough matchup against Berry College. Faceoff is set for 1 PM ET.
