Lynx Softball Runs Wins Streak to Seven with Wins Over Montclair, Simpson

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Rhodes College softball team ran their winning streak to seven games as they defeated Montclair State and Simpson by the scores of 4-2 and 3-1, respectively, at the Rebel Softball Games in Orlando.

In the first contest, Rhodes jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning over the Red Hawks as sophomore Jill Healy homered for the early advantage.

Montclair State evened the score at two a piece in the top of the third, but Rhodes scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth as freshman Shannon Tierney came in to pinch hit and doubled down the right field line, scoring two, and putting Rhodes ahead for good at 4-2.

From there, sophomore Bri Maniscalco took control, pitching five complete and striking out two to earn the win (5-4) while junior Allison Long pitched two innings of perfect ball to earn her second save of the season.

Offensively, sophomore Kendall Henry was 3-for-3 with a double while sophomore Katelynn Bresler was also 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. Healy was 1-for-2 with two RBIs while freshman Kayla Rose scored a run.

In game two, Rhodes again jumped out to a 2-0 lead, this time coming in the top of the first as junior Kirsten Samuels singled home two.

Rhodes never surrendered the lead despite a run scored in the second by the Storm. They went on to add one more run in the third inning as an error committed by Simpson made it a 3-1 game.

Tierney this time made her impact in the circle, going 4.2 innings and allowing only one run on three hits to move to 5-0 on the season. Long again came in relief and earned her second save of the day and third of the year, pitching 2.1 innings an only allowing one hit.

Samuels went 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Henry, senior Christine Hume, and freshman Olivia Jackson each had one hit and one run scored. Henry, Samuels, and freshman Anna Kula all stole a base as well.

Rhodes will take a day off and enjoy Kissimmee. The Lynx are now 13-8 on the season and will play again on Friday as they take on Kean and Thomas More at 8 AM ET and 10:15 AM ET.
