KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Rhodes College softball team saw their seven game winning streak snapped on Friday afternoon as they dropped a pair of games to Kean, 5-4, and Thomas More, 3-1.
In the first contest against Kean, the Lynx found themselves down 1-0 thanks to an error in the first inning. The Lynx responded with a two RBI double from sophomore
Karrah Flores to move ahead 2-1 in the second inning.
However, Kean got a run back in the bottom half of the second and three runs in third to take a 5-2 lead.
Rhodes made it a one run game in the fourth inning as sophomore Jill Healy belted a home run to right center, her third of the season and second this week, to get the Lynx back in it.
Despite sophomore
Bri Maniscalco and junior
Allison Long limiting the Kean offense in the final three innings, Rhodes could not find the game-tying or go-ahead run as they fell 5-4.
Maniscalco pitched 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits to go with a strikeout. Long pitched 1.2 innings and only allowed two hits.
Offensively, Flores and Healy each finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Sophomores
Kendall Henry and
Haley Rath each had a hit while junior
Kirsten Samuels, sophomore
Katelynn Bresler, and freshman
Anna Kula all scored a run.
In the second game, the Lynx bats struggled as they could only muster four hits in the contest. Rhodes got a run in the bottom of the first to even the game on a stolen base from senior
Christine Hume, which scored junior
Caroline Sutton on the throw.
However, Thomas More scored one in third and one in the sixth to close out the Lynx for a 3-1 victory.
Freshman
Shannon Tierney took her first loss of her career, pitching three complete and allowing two runs on five hits. Long pitched the final four innings, allowing one run on six hits and striking out two.
Samuels finished 2-for-3 on the day while Hume and Henry each added a hit.
Rhodes moves to 13-10 overall and will conclude their spring break trip tomorrow morning as they take on Carroll (WI) and WIlliam Patterson beginning at 8 AM ET.
