SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Rhodes College softball team improved to 7-2 in Southern Athletic Association play as they completed their second series sweep of the season, defeating Sewanee on the road, 17-3.
For the weekend, the Lynx scored 44 runs and only allowed 10 as they had no problems disposing their rivals.
Rhodes started thing off with a five run first inning as senior
Christine Hume and junior
Caroline Sutton each drove in a run while senior
Aubrey Blackstock had a two RBI double for the early advantage.
Sewanee responded with three in the bottom half of hte first before Rhodes exploded for 10 runs in the second inning to take complete control of the game.
Sophomore
Jill Healy singled home a run before a bases clearing double by Sutton made it a 9-3 game. Freshman
Shannon Tierney and sophomore
Kylle Cahill-Patray each drove a run before Rhodes had their second bases clearing hit of the inning as junior
Kirsten Samuels cleared them all with a triple. Freshman
Anna Kula capped the inning with a RBI single for the 15-3 lead.

Haley Rath made it 17-3 as Rhodes cruised the rest of the way for the win.
Tierney earned the win, pitching five complete and allowing three runs on three hits to go with six strikeouts.
Offensively, Sutton went 3-for-3 with two doubles, four RBIs, and three runs scored while Samules was 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Hume went 2-for-3 with a RBI and three runs scored while Blackstock was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Tierney had a pair of hits while Cahill-Patray scored two runs.
Rhodes continues their nine game road trip next weekend as they head to Jackson, Miss. for a three game series with Millsaps beginning on Sautrday with a doubleheader at 12 PM.
