MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College softball team dug themselves a 5-0 hole early on and could not complete the comeback as they fell to the Hendrix Warriors in the rubber match of a SAA series by the score of 7-6 on Sunday afternoon.
The Warriors were excellent early on, using a single, double, triple, and home run to build a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the third inning as chasing starter
Allison Long.
Rhodes went to work in the third inning as freshman
Kayla Rose drove in a run on a RBI single while sophomore
Jill Healy scored from third after Rose stole second. Sophomore
Kendall Henry added a two RBI double to make it a 5-4 game.
Hendrix got one in the sixth while another stolen base from Rose forced senior
Christine Hume home to keep it at a one run game.
The Warriors made it 7-5 in the sixth, but Healy drove in a run with a RBI single up the middle to make it 7-6 going into the final inning.Â
From there, Hendrix was able to hold off the Rhodes bats and pick up the road win and the series.Â
Long took the loss, pitching only two innings and allowing two runs on five hits. Sophomore
Bri Maniscalco pitched the next five innings, allowing five runs. The Lynx allowed a combined 16 hits to the hot hitting Warriors.
