Hume Walk Off Caps Lynx Softball Spring Break Trip with Pair of Wins

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Senior Christine Hume made her impact in both games including a walk off two RBI single to cap the 2017 Rhodes College softball spring break trip with two wins, defeating Carroll (WI) 4-1 followed by a 4-3 win over William Patterson.

The Lynx opened up the first contest against the Pioneers with a 1-0 lead in the third inning as sophomore Katelynn Bresler drove in a run via fielder's choice for the 1-0 lead.

Carroll got a run back in the bottom half of the third before the Lynx exploded for three runs in the fourth to take control of the game. Hume ripped a two RBI triple down the left field line to go ahead by two while junior Kirsten Samuels followed with a RBI single to put Rhodes up 4-1.

Junior Allison Long shut down the Pioneers from there, earning the win in the contest. Long pitched seven complete, striking out three in the game. She allowed only one run on four hits while surrendering a walk.

Rhodes pounded out 14 hits. Samuels went 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored while freshman Kayla Rose was 3-for-3 with a run scored and stolen base. Hume was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored while junior Caroline Sutton was 2-for-4 with a runs cored and sophomore Karrah Flores was 2-for-3. Sophomore Kendall Henry was 1-for-3 with a double.

In the second game, William Patterson took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before Rhodes responded with a pair of runs in the second inning as Rose drove in a run via a single while Hume drove in the second run with a sac fly.

William Patterson tied the game in the fourth and went ahead in the seventh to take a 3-2 lead. Going into the bottom half of the final inning, freshman Olivia Jackson reached on a hit by pitch while sophomore Jill Healy singled to put runners on first and second.

After an out moved them over to second and third, Hume walked to the plate and singled up the middle, scoring two runs and give the Lynx the win.

Healy finished 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored while Rose was 2-for-4 with a stolen base. Hume went 1-for-4 with three RBIs and the game winner while freshman Anna Kula and Sutton each added a hit.

Sophomore Bri Maniscalco earned her third win of the week, pitching a complete game and allowing three runs on eight hits to go with three strikeouts. She moves to 7-5 on the season.
