JACKSON, Miss. - Before the Rhodes College men's basketball team could focus on an epic showdown with the top team in the SAA and the team they are one game back of in the Centre Colonels, they had to take care of business against a struggling Millsaps team on the road.
The Lynx did just that on Sunday afternoon in Jackson, defeating the Majors by the score of 113-85 to remain one game by of the Colonels and set up a Friday evening matchup in Mallory Gymnasium.
Rhodes shot 42 of 92 from the field (46%) and 17 of 51 from deep (33%). The Lynx forced a season-high 40 Millsaps turnovers and absolutely dominated in points off turnovers at 51-16. The Lynx bench also out scored the Majors 69-37.
The Lynx dominated in the paint early on, finding easy layups combined with 3-pointers from sophomore

Jake Nestlehutt, and freshman
Kendrick Ashby to take a 25-12 lead at the under 12 media timeout.
The two teams would exchange buckets back and forth before the Lynx began to heat up again and build their lead as high as 21. Millsaps closed the gap at the end of the half, but Rhodes maintained a 55-42 lead at the break.
In the second half, Millsaps remained within striking distance as they two teams were even throughout the first 10 minutes with Rhodes maintained their 10-13 point lead throughout. However, a 24-8 run over the next five minutes  put Rhodes ahead 106-79. Senior
Brennan Sullivan and junior
Anesu Nyawata heated up from three, each hitting a pair during the run to put the game out of reach.
Rhodes would close the game out and earn the road win, 113-85, moving their overall record over .500 at 11-10 and their SAA record to 8-3.
Nyawata led the way with 17 points and two steals while Sullivan added 15 on five 3-pointers. Ashby and senior
Andrew Lowrie each had 12 points while four players finished with seven points in senior

Bryce Berry, freshman
Owen Galvin, and Darst. Darst would also add seven assists and six rebounds, flirting with a triple-double. Freshman
Mitch Weatherford pitched in four assists.
Robert Gardner led Millsaps with 18 points while James Turner had 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Rhodes will now focus on their huge matchup with Centre on Friday night in a battle for first place. The Lynx and Colonels are scheduled to tip off at 8 PM following the women's game.
