MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College baseball team held a 4-2 lead going into the seventh inning, but a run in the seventh and four runs in the eighth gave the DePauw Tigers a 7-5 win on Sunday afternoon at Stauffer Field.
Rhodes finished with five runs on eight hits and only one error while the Tigers had seven runs on 12 hits to go with two errors.
The Lynx took a 1-0 lead on a RBI ground out by senior
Ryan Olive followed by a solo shot by sophomore
Nick Bosma to extend the lead to two runs in the first inning alone.
After DePauw tied it at two in the fourth, Bosma put Rhodes ahead 4-2 as Bosma struck again, this time with a two RBI single to take a 4-2 lead.
The Lynx looked to be in control as sophomore
Jack Mercer was excellent in relief, going 3.1 innings and allowing no earned runs on three hits to go with two strikeouts. However, DePauw struck for five runs in the seventh and eighth innings for the 7-4 lead.
Senior
Bennett Notestine had a RBI double to cut the deficit to two, but it would not be enough as DePauw walked away victorious with a 7-5 win.
Bosma finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored while freshman
John Medich was 2-for-3 with a triple. Sophomore
Brady John went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored while freshman
Paul Giacomazzi was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Freshman lefty
Alex Garrett earned the start, pitching three complete to go with two strikeouts and two runs allowed on six hits. Senior
Jackson Lourie took the loss while freshman
Trey Sledge pitched one inning with a strikeout.
Rhodes moves to 5-5 on the season and will open up Southern Athletic Association next weekend as they head to Atlanta, Ga. for a three game series against Oglethorpe beginning on Friday with a 5 PM matchup.
