Lynx Softball Splits Doubleheader with Kenyon, Webster

MEMPHIS - On a chilly day at the Lynx Softball Complex, the Rhodes College softball team swung the bats well on Saturday afternoon, defeating Kenyon 13-7 in the early game before falling to Webster 10-7 later that afternoon.

In the first game, Rhodes scored eight runs in the first inning thanks in part to a two RBI single from senior Christine Hume and a two run bomb by sophomore Kendall Henry. The Lynx extended that lead to 11-2 in the third thanks to a two RBI double by senior Aubrey Blackstock.

The Ladies got within five runs, but Rhodes put the game away with a run in the fifth and sixth innings for the 13-7 victory.

Henry finished 2-for-2 on the day with five RBIs and two runs scored while Sutton was 2-for-5 with a RBI and three runs scored. Freshman Anna Kula added a two hit game while Blackstock and Hume each drove in a pair. Sophomores Kylle Cahill-Patray and Karrah Flores each had a hit and drove in a run.

Sophomore Bri Maniscalco got the win in the circle to improve to 3-3, pitching three complete and allowing only two runs on three hits while freshman Shannon Tierney earned her second save of the year.

After falling behind 2-0 to Webster early on, Rhodes went ahead 4-2 with a pair of runs in the second and third innings thanks to RBIs from Hume and sophomore Katelynn Bresler. However, the Gorloks took the lead back with a 3-run homer in the fourth and a five run fifth.

Rhodes got three back in the sixth thanks to a RBI double from freshman Olivia Jackson and a 2-run homer from Hume, but the Lynx fell just shot, ultimately losing 10-7.

Hume was 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored while Jackson was also 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Sutton went 2-for-4 while Kula was 1-for-1 with a run scored. Bresler had the only other hit to go with two RBIs.
