MEMPHIS - The top-seeded Rhodes College men's basketball team sailed past the 8th-seeded Millsaps Majors on Friday afternoon, moving onto the SAA Semifanls with a 106-79 win in Mallory Gymnasium.

Mike DeGeorge was named Coach of the Year, shot 53% from the field and 38% from deep including 13 3-pointers. Rhodes forced 24 Major turnovers while only giving it away 14 times. Rhodes out rebounded the Majors 43-35.
Millsaps jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but that would be short lived as Rhodes exploded, finding easy buckets and racing out to an 18-7 lead. Millsaps pulled within six, but Rhodes pushed it out to as many as 13 behind buckets from juniors
Anesu Nyawata and
Ian Harrison.
The 8-seeded Majors did not go down easily, staying within 10 for most of the half, but a flurry of 3-pointers from senior
Andrew Lowrie, senior
Brennan Sullivan, and sophomore
Daniel Darst pushed the lead out to 46-30.
Rhodes took a 48-35 lead into the break, and after Millsaps got it down to 10, the duo of Nyawata and Darst took over in the second half, leading the Lynx offensively as they pushed the lead to as high as 23 five minutes into the half.
From there, Rhodes was able to cruise to victory, playing no man over 15 minutes in the game. The Lynx led by as many as 34 at one point in the second half before Millsaps cut the deficit down in the waning minutes.
Nyawata led the Lynx with 17 points while Darst had 15 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Freshman
Mitch Weatherford scored 12 points to go with three assists and two steals while fellow freshman
Owen Galvin scored 11 points. Senior
Tyler Gee had eight points, six rebounds, and four steals while junior
Price Dalton had three steals.
Rhodes will move onto the SAA Semifinals tomorrow afternoon at Mallory Gymnasium as they will take on the No. 4 seed, and arch rivals, Sewanee. The Tigers defeated Hendrix earlier in the day by the score of 87-61.
