ATLANTA, Ga. - The Rhodes College softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday morning, falling 6-3 to No. 4 Emory before dropping a 6-5 contest to Averett at the Emory Softball Field.
The Lynx fall to 3-3 on the young season and will get another crack at the Eagles and Cougars tomorrow morning.
In the first game, Rhodes found themselves down 4-0 after two innings as Emory was able to jump all over junior
Allison Long, making her third start of the season. Rhodes climbed back into it in the fourth inning as the first run of the game scored thanks in part to an error by the Eagles.
Junior Kirsten Samules stole second while sophomore
Kendall Henry scored from third to cut the deficit down to 4-2. Freshman
Olivia Jackson then did a job with one out, grounding out to third to score Samuels and make it a 4-3 game.
However, Emory responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and held on for the 6-3 win.
Long took the loss, pitching six complete and allowing five earned runs off 12 hits to go with a strikeout. The Lynx only had two hits as senior
Caroline Sutton went 1-for-2 with a walk while sophomore
Katelynn Bresler was 1-for-3 with a double.
In the second game, Rhodes took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second over Averett as sophomore
Karrah Flores grounded out to score one run while Bresler would score on a wild pitch.
The Cougars got two runs back in the third to tie it up, but a RBI single from Bresler in the top of the fourth put the Lynx ahead 3-2.
Averett would explode for four runs in the bottom of the fifth and would take a 6-3 lead. Rhodes gave themselves a chance in the top of the seventh thanks in part to a RBI triple from freshman
Olivia Jackson and a RBI single from senior
Christine Hume, but the Cougards held on and got the victory in the neutral site contest.
Sophomore
Bri Maniscalco took the loss, allowing five runs off seven hits to go with a strikeout in four innings pitched. Freshman
Shannon Tierney pitched the final two innings, allowing one run despite not allowing a hit. She had a strikeout to go with two walks.
Bresler had another great afternoon, going 2-for-3 with a double, a RBI, and a run scored while Jackson was 2-for-4 with a triple, RBI, and run scored. Hume and Flores each drove in a run while Samules and freshman
Kayla Rose each scored a run.Â
Rhodes will get ready to face both squads tomororw in Atlanta. This time the Lynx will open up with Averett beginning at 10 AM ET following by a 12 PM matchup with Emory.
