Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lynx split Weekend Games in Texas

Memphis - Rhodes College men's basketball went 1-1 over the weekend, defeating Austin College 120-103 and falling to undefeated UT-Tyler 110-99. Austin College is now 2-5 on the year, UT-Tyler improves to 6-0 while Rhodes is now 4-3.

The 99 points in the loss on Sunday is the fewest points scored for the Lynx since the final game of the season last year against Whitman where they netted 98 points.

VS Austin
Rhodes held a 62-40 lead at halftime after building a 13-0 lead from the first whistle which included back-to-back treys to open the game. Austin fought back in the second half, outscoring the Lynx 62-58, but ran out of time.

Freshman Andrew Evans led Rhodes with 16 points and four three-pointers on eight attempts while Jake Nestlehutt went five-of-eight from behind the arc. Also scoring in double figures was Anesu Nyawata and Bryce Berry (14 each) as well as Kendrick Ashby who recorded the only Rhodes double-double with 11 rebounds and 10 points.

Rhodes earned 27 second-chance points off of 29 offensive rebounds.

VS UT-Tyler
Rhodes led UT-Tyler 27-17 for a 10-point lead with 11:31 to go in the first half, their largest of the game. That spread was over very quickly as the Patriots scored 10 straight points to tie the game, with buckets back and forth to end the half with UT-Tyler ahead 53-47. They would never relinquish the lead during the second half.

Preston Giroux didn't miss a single basket against the Patriots, netting a team-high 19 points on eight field goals and three free throws. He also secured a Lynx-high seven rebounds. Evans recorded three more treys to finish the weekend 7-of-14 from the arc. He scored 14 points in the game. Mitch Weatherford and Kerry Love led the Lynx in assists with seven and four respectively while William McIntyre had three steals.

The Lynx have a two-week break, before returning to action December 18-19 when they host Covenant, Austin College and Piedmont in their Holiday Classic Tournament. The Lynx play Piedmont at 5 p.m. on the 18th and Covenant at 3 p.m. on the 19th.
