Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lynx run away from Piedmont thanks to three-point shooting

Memphis - After only leading 48-46, Rhodes men's basketball secured seven straight three-pointers to take a 13-point lead over Piedmont College. The long range scoring spanned both halves as the Lynx netted three to end the first half and four to begin the second half, all in a matter of just under five minutes of play. The edge would ultimately allow Rhodes to go up by 21 points eight minutes left in the game and take a 23-point lead with two minutes left.

The win (106-91) was the first of two games for the Lynx as they host their Four Points by Sheraton Holiday Classic which also includes Austin College and Covenant College. Rhodes will enter day two of the tournament with a 5-3 overall record as they look to take on Covenant who defeated Austin 100-88 earlier Monday.

The Lynx started the game in foul trouble and trailed the first 10 minutes of the game before taking a 29-28 advantage, where they would maintain the lead for the remained of the contest.

Rhodes would gain the win after scoring four-to-six points in a row throughout the game.

Anesu Nyawata led the Lynx in the first half with 10 points while Will McIntyre led the team in the second half with nine points.

Three Lions scored 20 or more points including Justin Vallejo with 22 points and 10 rebounds, Miles Riley with 21 points and Taylor Mills with 20 points.

For Rhodes, Preston Giroux aided his team by scoring 10 points after going five-of-seven in the field. He also tallied four rebounds and three steals. Mitch Weatherford, Nyawata and McIntyre all finished with 12 points while Jake Nestlehutt tallied 10 points. McIntyre and Nestehutt both recorded three three-pointers.

Piedmont's accuracy was .507 on the evening while Rhodes' total was .444. The Lynx made up for their misses in the field by going 16-of-20 at the free throw line while the Lions made 17-of-26. Rhodes also went 18-of-47 from long range, compared to Piedmont's four on 19 attempts.
