Rome, Ga. - The Rhodes College volleyball team fell victim to Birmingham-Southern College Friday night 3-0. The loss ends Rhodes' 2017 season with a 12-14 overall record.
Rhodes fought hard in the third set, tying the game 6-6. A huge kill by Lulu Shultz gave the Lynx a 9-8 lead. A block by Schulz and
Heather Antrim gave Rhodes a three-point lead, their largest of the game. With a tied game 15-15, BSC took the lead until setter
Arati Joshi's dump landed dead center of BSC's court untouched to tie the game 17-17. Play continued back and forth as the Lynx defense maintained some serious digs to keep the Lynx alive. BSC took a 21-19 lead when Coach Harris tried to rally Rhodes with a timeout. Rhodes cut BSC's lead to one (23-22) when the Panthers called a timeout. BSC closed out the win on two kills as they improve to 19-7 on the year.Â
In the game, Schulz hit .857 as she recorded six kills, tied for a team-high alongside senior
Elasha Williams. Williams had several amazing digs trying to prolong her final season. She finished with six in the game but freshman libero
Mary Frances Daniel recorded 14 for the Lynx while setter
Sarah Nieland added 11 of her own.Â
Attacks and kills between both teams were relatively even, however serve receive and attack errors hindered Rhodes in the loss.Â
The Lynx lose Williams and
Gabby Gafford to graduation. Be on the lookout for a season recap later next week.
