MEMPHIS - Rhodes College men's basketball opened their Thanksgiving Classic with a 141-107 victory over Howard Payne University. The Lynx are now 3-1 on the season while HPU drops to 0-3.
Tied 7-7, Rhodes scored 10 unanswered points to lead 17-7, then went on a 17-6 run before later taking a 22-point lead with 6:07 left to play.
The Lynx led 65-53 at halftime and held their largest lead of the game (36 points) with 48 seconds remaining in the game. HPU cut Rhodes' lead to eight right after the half but the Lynx's 14-2 run broke open the game.
Bryce Berry led Rhodes with 20 points and
Mitch Weatherford led the hosts with six assists, but Vaughn Sampson went five-of-five in the field on the afternoon, including three-of-three from long range.
Rhodes went 23-of-49 from three-point range for a 46.9% average. The Lynx secured 42 points off of HPU's 35 turnovers on their way to the program's second-highest number of points scored in a game.
Rhodes will return to their home court to play Illinois Wesleyan Sunday, November 26th at 3 p.m.
