Allie Young dropped that deficit by a point after she was fouled. After Belhaven missed two shots in a row, Young pulled down the rebound. Teammate
Alyssa Owens drove to the baseline and passed the ball to the center of the paint and she was falling out of bounds where
Jessie Ustick converted the jumper to regain the lead for Rhodes for good. Owens and freshman Lindsey White each drained two free throws, ultimately earning the Lynx the victory. At the end of the game, Rhodes led 71-66 when Belhaven made a last-second shot to finish the game with 69 points.
The loss is the fourth in a row for Belhaven while Rhodes pulls to 2-1 on the season headed into Thanksgiving break.
Rhodes led 37-30 at halftime but the Blazers outscored the Lynx 39-34 during the second half. The Lynx allowed Belhaven to secure 10 offensive boards during the second half.
In the game, Rhodes connected on 22 of 27 free throw attempts. Owens made all 10 attempts, Whiteside all eight attempts as the pair and Ustick combined for 20-20 at the line.
Whiteside and Owens finished with the game-high 18 points each, posting 10 and 11 respectively in the first half. Whiteside also pulled in nine rebounds, added four assists and two steals to her totals while Owens hit two treys, recorded five defensive rebounds and assisted six times.
Ustick and Young both finished with 10 points. Young added two blocks and five rebounds. Earning her first collegiate block was freshman
Maya Longacre, completely denying Belhaven's Aaliyaha Thornton at the end of the first half.
In the game, Belhaven out-rebounded Rhodes 41-35 but Rhodes' three-point shooting and 81.5% free throw accuracy pulled out the victory.
The Lynx have over a week off before traveling to Welch College on Tuesday, Nov. 28th. Rhodes will then return to Mallory Gymnasium for a Friday night contest against Agnes Scott on December 1st at 6 p.m.
