Memphis - Rhodes College field hockey has earned their fourth straight Southern Athletic Association regular season title on Homecoming. The Lynx shared the tile with Centre for two years before winning it outright last year. Rhodes defeated Hendrix College 10-0 to remain unbeaten in conference play. They improve to 11-4 overall and will enter as the hosts of the SAA Tournament next weekend with a 6-0 conference record.
Rhodes maintained possession of the ball a lot to begin the game as
Jillian Christensen netted the game-winner in the third minute of play. Rhodes netted just three of their double-digits goals in the first half while out-shooting Hendrix 35-2.
In the second half, Rhodes continued their offensive front, notching 44 shots and tallying seven goals.
Hendrix goalkeeper Alexis Truitt recorded 32 saves in the game.
Mackenzie Busby led all Lynx scorers with four games including three in a row which spanned both halves.
The game has shaken up the SAA record book a little bit as Rhodes' 79 saves breaks Centre's 70 from last season. Their 10 goals is also tied for third in a game.
Before the game, Rhodes honored seniors
Laura Eckelkamp,
Morgan Woodrow,
Lauren Travis and
Maddie Smith. Those seniors will still get to play at home this year as Rhodes will be hosting the SAA Tournament at Mason Field, Friday, November 3-5.
