MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College women's basketball were out shot 18-4 from the free throw line as the Emory Eagles proved to be too tough in a 77-48 loss on Monday afternoon at Mallory Gymnasium.
It was a tough shooting day for the Lynx as they went 16 of 65 from the field (25%) and 3 of 22 from behind the arch (14%). Rhodes was able to get to the free throw line 16 times in the second half, but it was not enough as they were out rebounded 51-32 despite forcing 20 turnovers.
Emory shot 25 of 52 from the field (48%) and was an impressive 23 of 30 from the free throw line (77%).Â
The Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead and moved it out to 9-2. Rhodes closed the game to three, but a quick 6-0 run put Emory in control at 15-6 while a 10-2 run to close the quarter gave Emory a 25-11 lead at the break.
In the second quarter, Emory kept their feet on the gas pedal, out scoring Rhodes 18-9, taking a 43-20 lead going into the break.
In the second half, the Eagles stayed on top, but Rhodes continued to battle, scoring 28 points in the second half, but Emory was just too tough as they were able to pull away and take a 77-48 victory.

Sara Giesen and freshman Kaelee Overfield each finished with nine points while senior
Bailey Kramer pitched in eight. Senior
Blaire Smith and sophomore
Allie Young has seven points. Kramer added seven rebounds and two steals while juniors
Erin Deery and
Jessie Ustick each had three steals.
Rhodes moves to 1-11 ont he year and will move to into conference play this weekend as they take on defensive SAA Champion Birmingham-Southern on Friday at 6 PM in Mallory Gym.
