CONWAY, Ark. - The Rhodes College softball team suffered a pair of tough losses on Saturday afternoon as they couldn't hold off the Warriors of Hendrix, falling by the score of 3-2 in both games at the Warrior Softball Field.
In the first game, both teams were relatively quiet at the plate as sophomore
Allison Long did an outstanding job keeping the Warriors in check. In the top of the fourth, junior
Aubrey Blackstock singled to right to score junior
Caroline Sutton and give Rhodes a 1-0 lead. Long tried to score from second to make it 2-0, but was gunned down at home.
Hendrix took the momentum into the bottom half of the fourth as they scored three runs, taking advantage of some miscues by the Lynx, to move ahead. Rhodes got one back in the sixth as Blackstock doubled to left to score freshman
Haley Rath and cut the deficit to 3-2.
However, Rhodes could not answer from there, failing to even the score up and eventually falling. Long took the loss, pitching 4.1 innings and credited with all three runs allowed. Sophomore
Caroline Reilly finished the last 1.2 innings in relief, allowing no hits.
Blackstock finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs while Long was 1-for-2 on the day. Senior
Rachel Pewitt added a 1-for-4 day with a double.
In the second game, Reilly took the circle and was terrific from the get-go, keeping the Warriors scoreless for a majority of the game. Rhodes would go ahead 2-0 in the fifth innings thanks to a pair of RBI ground outs from Blackstock and freshman
Jill Healy.
However, Hendrix again answered, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth to suddenly take a 3-2 advantage and leave Rhodes to their final three outs. The Lynx were put down 1-2-3 in the seventh and suffered a tough loss by the same score.
Reilly pitched six complete, allowing three runs off five hits. Rhodes only had four hits in the second contest with senior
Erin Parker leading the charge with a 2-for-3 day. Junior
Christine Hume was 1-for-3 with a double while Pewitt finished 1-for-3.
Rhodes moves to 20-15 overall and 4-13 in SAA play including seven straight losses in conference play. They will look to snap the skid as they return to action tomorrow afternoon at 12 PM as they also look to salvage a game from the Warriors.
