Lynx Capture Two Wins from Crosstown Rival LeMoyne-Owen

MEMPHIS – The Rhodes College softball team picked up a pair of wins over LeMoyne-Owen College, 12-4 (6) and 10-0 (5), to move to 20-13 on the season on Tuesday afternoon at the Rhodes College Softball Complex.

In the first game, Rhodes jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning thanks to hits from freshmen Jill Healy and Karrah Flores, and senior Erin Parker. The second inning ended with one run for the Magicians and two more for Rhodes as senior Rachel Pewitt capitalizes on an error to follow Kendall Henry home.

The Magicians would get three back in the fourth to cut their deficit in half, but aggressive base running in the fifth would lead the lynx to a score of 11-4. Henry would hit the winning run home in the sixth with a single to left center. The Lynx ended their first game with twelve runs, sixteen hits, and zero errors.

In the second game, the Lynx loaded the diamond early starting with a successful bunt from junior Caroline Sutton. After scoring another, the Lynx finished the first inning with two runs from a freshman Kylle Cahill-Patray two RBI double.

Rhodes added an insurance run in the second inning as junior Aubrey Blackstock singles home a run to put Rhodes ahead 5-0.

In the third inning the hot bats continued. Rhodes earned its four runs of the inning from a Sutton two RBI double followed by one RBI singles from Henry and pitcher Allison Long. The Lynx scored their tenth and final run in the fourth inning, followed by strong defense from Long in the top of the fifth to get the next three batters out.

Blackstock went an impressive 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and a run scored, while Sutton was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Sophomore pitcher Long silenced the Magician's bats allowing only seven hits, striking out ten batters, and earning two wins for the day.
