MONGTGOMERY, Ala. - The Rhodes College baseball team scored a run in the last inning, which cut the Huntingdon College lead down to one, but could not ride the momentum to close the game out with a win, falling to Huntingondon, 3-2, on Tuesday afternoon,.
The Hawks hot start quickly came to an end after they scored 3 in the 2nd inning. The Lynx battled back and earned their first run in the 4th inning when freshmen
Jacob Telli hit a sac fly out to left field, allowing senior
Marcus Moreland to score.
The game became intense when a pair of singles by
Bill Munson and
Bennett Notestine followed by a walk gave the Lynx bases loaded.
Will Hunt came in big with the single which drove in Munson, cutting the lead to 3-2. However, the Lynx did not convert and left two runners on base as the game ended with a Hawk's victory.
Freshmen
Daniel Kurtzer started at pitcher for the Lynx, pitching 2 innings, while giving up 6 hits and 3 runs along with 2 strikeouts. From there
Jake Sossamon and
Cameron Tinker took the mound, pitching 3 and 2 innings respectively. Neither Sossamon nor Tinker gave up any hits for the Lynx and restricted the Hawk's offense. Kurtzer is now 2-1 on the season.
For the Lynx, Munson and Hunt performed and had 3 and 2 hits respectively. Hunt drove in the only RBI in the game which allowed Munson to score. Notestine, Olive and Winter also each added a hit for the Lynx.
Rhodes is now 16-17 on the season and 6-9 in the SAA conference. The Lynx will be back on the road on to Danville, KY, where they will face the Colonels from Centre College for a 3 game conference matchup.
The series will begin on Saturday with a doubleheader at 1 and 4 PM, and 12PM on Sunday.
