COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. - The Rhodes College softball, seeded No. 6 at the Southern Athletic Softball Championship, upset the No. 3 Millsaps College Majors, 3-0, thanks in part to a 3-run bomb from junior
Christine Hume as well as a terrific performance from sophomores
Allison Long and
Caroline Reilly.
In the third inning, freshman
Jill Healy and sophomore
Kirsten Samuels reached on back-to-back bunt singles to the third baseman. One batter later, Hume came to the plate with two down as smashed a three run bomb off of Major ace Cassidy DeNoon.
DeNoon settled in and made it difficult on the Lynx, but Rhodes had all the runs they needed as Long and Reilly combined to shut down the Millsaps offense as Long earned the win.
Long went three complete, allowing no runs on hits hits to go with a strikeout. Meanwhile, Reilly went four complete, allowing only one hit on two walks and striking out two on the day.
Reilly entered the game with two on and one down as it eventually turned into bases loaded with one away in the fourth. Reilly got out of the inning unscathed and proceeded to shut down the Millsaps offense en route to the 3-0 victory.
Hume finished 1-for-3 with the 3-run homer while junior
Aubrey Blackstock had a pair of hits. Healy and Samuels each had a hit to go with a run scored.
The Lynx go back to work tonight with a 6 PM matchup against No. 2 Berry at W.C. Johnson Park (Field #1). Live video and live stats are available via rhodeslynx.com.
