KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Sophomore
Allison Long tossed a no-hitter against Mitchell while freshman
Bri Maniscalco pitched a complete game over Baldwin Wallace as the Rhodes softball team picked up a pair of wins at the Rebel Classic on Tuesday morning.
Long (3-1) pitched all seven innings, allowing no runs on no hits to go with three strikeouts and only one walk. Long becomes the first Lynx softball player to throw a no-hitter since
Forrest Skelton threw a no-no on February 22nd, 2014 against Transylvania.
In the first game, neither team could get much going throughout the first three innings as both the Lynx and Mariners were held scoreless. After Long put down Mitchell in the fourth, senior
Rachel Pewitt put the Lynx ahead with solo homerun to left for a 1-0 lead.
It was all Long needed, but Rhodes added two more runs in the inning as freshman
Haley Rath scored on an illegal pitch while freshman
Jill Healy doubled to left to bring home another.
Rhodes scored three more in the fifth as freshman
Kendall Henry drove two in on a RBI single followed by an infield RBI single by freshman
Karrah Flores.
A
Kirsten Samuels RBI triple in the sixth made it 7-0 while Long finished the game off in the seventh to earn her first career no-no and give the Lynx a great start on their Spring Break trip.
Henry finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs while Samuels, Flores, senior
Erin Parker, junior
Christine Hume, and freshman
Jill Healy all had two hits each. Parker and Hume each stole a pair of bases while Samuels had a stolen base as well.
Maniscalco (5-1) was excellent as well in the second game, pitching a complete game, allowing seven hits, one run, and striking out 10, a new career-high in her young career.
The Lynx only runs of the game came in the third inning. With the bases loaded and one out, freshman
Katelynn Bresler smacked a single to right center to score two and give Rhodes the 2-0 lead.
The Yellow Jackets got a run off an error in the fifth inning, but Maniscalco settled in and continued to get outs. In the bottom of the seventh, the first batter for Baldin Wallace reached on a walk. After stealing second, Maniscalco proceeded to strike the next three batters out to end the game and seal the win.
Bresler went 1-for-2 on the day with the two RBIs while Samuels was 2-for-2 with two stolen bases. Parker had a pair of walks Pewitt, Flores, and Hume all added a hit each.
Rhodes moves to 11-3 overall and will return to action tomorrow with two more matchups against No. 20 Central at 1:30 PM ET and Westminster at 3:45 PM ET.
