MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College women's lacrosse could not overcome an 11-2 first half as they fell to the Clarkson Golden Knights, 17-7, on Thursday afternoon at Mason Field.
The Golden Knights outshot the Lynx, 27-14, including a 23-12 advantage on goal. Rhodes turned the ball over 20 times to Clarkson's 14 while the Lynx were only 10-for-17 in clear attempts.
Clarkson took a 5-0 lead in the first 10 minutes before sophomore
Kendall Cunningham put Rhodes on the board at the 16:52 mark. Cunningham would score her second goal four minutes later to make it a 6-2 game.
However, the Golden Knights scored the final five goals of the half and then scored the first four of the second half to take a 15-2 advantage.
The Lynx would score three consecutive goals as junior
Ashley Dill, freshman
Taylor Ansel, and Cunningham got it back down to a 10-goal game. Clarkson went ahead 17-5, but Rhodes finished the match with goals from senior
Morgan Fuller and sophomore
Maggie Rippeto.
Cunningham finished with a hat trick to go with two draw controls, a caused turnover, and a ground ball while Fuller and Rippeto each had a goal and assist. Sophomore
Ashley Doyle had an assist and three draw controls while Dill, junior
Lindsay Gess, and sophomore
Rachel Windmueller each had three groundballs.
Windmueller also led the way defensively with three caused turnovers while sophomore
Elizabeth Lewis added two.
Rhodes is now 6-2 on the season and will return to action on Wednesday, March 23rd as they will welcome in Oberlin College. First draw control is set for 4 PM.
